Binance Reopens More Withdrawals, Warns of Fake Support Scams
Binance began reopening withdrawals for a second, longer list of assets from 04:00 UTC (11:00 Vientiane time) on 3 November, according to its Security Incident Recovery Update #6. The list covers nine networks: BNB Smart Chain, Ethereum, Solana, XRP Ledger, Sui, Arbitrum, Optimism, Tron and Base. It includes stablecoins such as RLUSD, USD1, FDUSD and TUSD, and Binance said withdrawals for all bSTOCKS would also open. Binance said the assets would not all open at once, that each network-asset pair returns after security and readiness checks, and that deposits remain open. Later that day Binance said on X that withdrawals had resumed for five stablecoins on Ethereum, then for 31 more assets on Ethereum and 20 on Solana, crypto.news reported. Binance has not given a date for the remaining assets.
On 2 November, Binance said it had completed the zero-knowledge proof for its reserve snapshot of 00:00 UTC on 31 October, letting customers check that their balances were included and backed at least 1:1 for 10 assets: BTC, ETH, USDT, BNB, SOL, USDC, XRP, USD1, RLUSD and ZEC, CryptoSlate reported. CryptoSlate pointed out that the proof is a snapshot of balances at one point in time and does not show where Binance’s finances stand today. Binance plans another snapshot on 4 November covering more assets, and generating its proof is expected to take about 40 to 50 hours, according to crypto.news and CryptoSlate.
In a 2 November advisory, Binance warned that scammers may pose as Binance staff and offer to speed up withdrawals, sell priority access, help with compensation claims or move users’ funds into a supposedly secure wallet, CryptoSlate reported. Binance stressed that it charges no fee to release a withdrawal, sells no fund-recovery service and will not ask customers to approve a wallet transaction so they can get their money back. It also warned of fake proof-of-reserves websites and compensation links.
As of 3 November, Binance customers had withdrawn a net $4.72 billion since withdrawals reopened on 1 November, up from $3.64 billion on that first day, CoinDesk reported. A Binance spokesperson gave the BBC the same $4.72 billion figure on 3 November and put the exchange’s total assets at about $157 billion, a figure she said reflects the hack, withdrawals and market price changes. Binance says it will bear the financial impact of the stolen funds and that the losses will not be passed on to users.
bitqik staff will never ask for your password, 2FA code or seed phrase.
