Everyday users and institutions on Coinbase can now hold RLUSD, Ripple’s dollar-pegged stablecoin, through the main Coinbase app, Coinbase Exchange and Coinbase Prime. The two companies announced the move on Wednesday, 28 October (US time), according to The Block. Users can swap US dollars, or other dollar stablecoins that Coinbase supports, for RLUSD one-for-one, and send it in or out over the XRP Ledger, Ethereum or Base. Access for Coinbase Global Exchange users, including the option to post RLUSD as collateral, is due to come later.
Earlier the same day, Moody’s Ratings gave RLUSD A2 long-term and P-1 short-term deposit ratings. Both are investment-grade marks. Moody’s said the rating reflects the credit quality and market value of the reserve assets, reserve coverage, liquidity and redemption arrangements. According to Moody’s, most of the reserve is US Treasury bills, other short-term US government assets and cash held with BNY, and Standard Custody & Trust Company targets 103% reserve coverage. Ripple’s Jack McDonald said RLUSD is the first stablecoin to receive an investment-grade rating from Moody’s.
The news caps a busy week for Ripple, which earlier received final approval from the US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to launch Ripple National Trust Bank. RLUSD launched in December 2024. Ripple says its market value has passed $2.6 billion, while The Block’s report on the rating put it at $2.5 billion. Moody’s noted that the ratings could be lowered if reserve quality, coverage, liquidity or redemption capacity weakens.
RLUSD is not listed on bitqik.
